Community Emergency Response Team

What is CERT?

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their community and trains them in basic disaster response skills. Following an event when professional responders are not immediately available, those who have completed CERT training are better equipped to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace.

Greenville County offers a 20-hour CERT Basic Training course at least twice a year (Spring & Fall) at no cost to those who live, work, or worship in Greenville County. Please see our training calendar for more information on training dates.

Participants of CERT Basic Training gain hands-on experience in the following sessions:

  • Basic Disaster Preparedness
  • Basic Fire Suppression
  • Disaster Medical Operations 1: Triage & Treating Life Threatening Injuries
  • Disaster Medical Operations 2: Assessment, Treatment, and Hygiene
  • Light Search & Rescue
  • Team Organization & Disaster Psychology
  • Terrorism & CERT
  • Final Exercise (view pictures)
